Designing a Bedroom for Your Little Fireman

November 3rd, 2009

If your son is going through his “I want to be a fireman when I grow up” stage, why not encourage him by decorating his room in a fire station theme? There’s something very appealing and exciting about everyday heroes like fireman that is inspiring to little boys. Designing a bedroom around a fireman theme is sure to set his imagination and creativity on fire.

Standard City Park Kids Captains Bed in Cherry Finish

You probably won’t want to paint the walls fire engine red, but you can certainly choose other primary colors like blue or yellow, for your son’s room that will be the perfect canvas for bright and bold fire station themed accessories. There are also a variety of wallpaper patterns with relevant firefighting themes. If going the wallpaper route is a little too intimidating or time consuming for you, pick a primary paint color and pair it with a border. Or choose a neutral color for the walls, but bring fire engine colors into the room with your choice of a window treatment, bedding and an area rug.

 KidKraft Fire Truck Toddler Bed

For a toddler’s fireman themed bedroom, the Kidkraft Firefighter Collection would be ideal. In addition to the toddler bed, the collection includes a firefighter step stool, bookcase and a really cool fire hydrant nightstand. Even if your child isn’t a toddler, the firehouse bookcase from this series would be great in a fire station theme room for older kids.

Storage is an important element of any boy’s bedroom design. Place a trunk at the foot of the bed. It’s not only great for hiding away treasures and clutter alike, but it also provides additional seating, making the room more functional and user-friendly.

KidKraft Medium Locker in Red

If you don’t have room for storage trunk or toy chest, this locker unit is perfect for our fireman themed room. It’s a novel accent piece that could also double as a nightstand or side table. Many manufacturers offer a number of fireman theme furnishings, including fire hydrant toy boxes, firehouse bookshelves and fire truck activity table and chair sets.

Don’t forget the floor. Especially if you have chosen to go the primary color route for your child’s bedding rather than purchasing a bed-in-a-bag set with a fireman theme, selecting an area rug with a bright red fire engine on it will help tie the theme of the room together.

Melissa & Doug Dalmatian Plush Stuffed Animal

Since Dalmatians are closely linked to firemen and fire stations, stick one in the corner of the room as a finishing touch.
