Baby Safety Items Buying Guide

The number one concern with new parents is of course baby safety items? Their health and safety, comes first in any parents eyes. There are a lot of ways in today’s world that allow parents to properly keep their children healthy and safe, but which ways are the most important? Here is a selection of baby gear that’s designed to help you maintain your baby’s well being:

Baby Safety Items: Monitors

Every new parent needs a baby monitor to extend their eyes and ears on their sleeping baby. You don’t need to be in the room with your baby sleeping in their crib – simply slip on the monitor, and if you hear your baby’s cries, come to their rescue! You must note that monitors do not take the place of parental supervision, and shouldn’t be used unless your baby is asleep in their crib. Here are a few examples of different baby monitors:

Safety 1st MonitorAudio

These are the most basic kind of baby monitors. To minimize interference, they may have multiple channels, and they also include volume control and a low battery warning. They either run on an electrical charger or through batteries. Most models include an LED light display where you can actually see the sounds your baby makes. They also have a clip-on feature, which is important to use as opposed to holding onto the fragile antenna.

Baby Saftey Items: Gates

Once your baby starts to crawl, and eventually walk, you’ll want to make sure they don’t accidentally trip down the stairs, stumble into a dangerous room, or wander outside. Safety gates block off doorways and archways, keeping your baby in the safe parts of the house, away from any imposing danger.

Baby GateThere are generally two types of safety gates: pressure-mounted and hardware-mounted. Their description basically fits their name – pressure-mounted fit snugly between two walls, like a tension shower rod. They’re great for archways, because they can be moved all throughout the house just by releasing the pressure.

Baby Safety Items: Childproofing

Kids are curious creatures, and they want to stick their little noses and fingers into anything they can find. To protect them from potentially dangerous threats, like corners, outlets, or closing cabinet doors, you can purchase childproof kits that include specific pieces you apply to dangerous parts in your home – keeping them childproof!

Baby Safety Items: Thermometers

The most effective way to monitor your baby’s temperature is through the armpit (also know as the axillary method). The mouth can be too dangerous, and the ear canal is hard to find since baby’s ears are so tiny, so the underarm area is most recommended. Normal axillary temperature is precisely 97.8 degrees Fahrenheit for adults, but the norm for a baby is between 97.6 to 100 degrees F.

Baby Safety Items: Hygiene

If you want to make it easier to bathe your infant, consider a bath seat or a bath center for your little one. Bath seats feature clamp-on arms that attach to the side of the bath to secure the seat, keeping your baby stationary as you wash him or her. Bath centers can grow with your baby. From birth, you can securely lay them in the center and gently wash them, and as they get older, they can sit themselves upright in it. Most centers feature fun toys and a “water gun” feature that allows you to gently squirt water over your baby to get them squeaky clean.
