Skill-Developing Activities for Babies
Allowing your baby plenty of playtime is essential for their overall development so now you need some ideas for activites for babies. Playtime encourages social, physical, and emotional growth, plus when you have the right toys it can be easy to entertain your baby!
When it comes to playtime, always check your child’s reaction. If they start fussing or crying five minutes into play, you might want to take a break or move onto something else. Remember, repetition is key, so keep trying to see if your baby catches on.
Here’s a selection of different toys and tools that will help develop your baby’s overall life skills!
Look for some sort of toy that plays music, especially a song that you know, like a common nursery rhyme. Singing to your baby can either entertain them & energize them, or put them to sleep, depending on the volume and tempo of the song.
Something high energy like “The Wheels on the Bus” will get your baby smiling if you sing it loud and proud, while “Rockabye Baby” is ideal for soothing them in their crib for bed time. The Sunshine Kids Amazing Baby Music Mobile can be placed anywhere from the crib to the stroller, plays music, and slowly rotates to support visual development.
To stimulate your baby as they grow, something like the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Kick & Crawl Gym is an ideal tool to help them learn basic skills. When they can only lie on their back, they can learn to kick the hanging ball and grab the hanging toys.
When you begin to schedule “tummy time” with them at 4-6 months in age (to develop their neck strength), the toys can be detached and placed in front of them to play with. Once your baby can crawl, turn the gym into a tunnel that they’ll love going through again and again!
If you need to get dinner ready or pay the bills, place your baby in the Graco Swing n’ Bounce to let them entertain themselves while you quickly finish your task.
Just remember to keep baby in the same room as you so you can keep an eye on them! This combination swinger/bouncer is a great way for your baby to be soothed through gentle rocking, or entertaining by bouncing themselves up and down. It also reclines, so you can change your baby’s point of view and give them something new to look at.
As your baby gets older, he or she is going to want to grab everything they can to gain a sense of touch. The Safety 1st Grip ‘n Go Folding Walker is ideal to let your child learn to walk and also have fun grabbing different toys. It also features sounds and lights, which are great visual and audio stimulations for your child.
Babies are fascinated by texture, so offer them a toy like the Fisher Price Rainforest Giraffe Ring Stacker – it has different coloured and textured rings that your baby will love playing with.
The rings also make jingling and crackling noises to entertain your child. Babies also love taking things apart and putting them back together again, so this ring-stacking game is ideal for them to learn their puzzle-solving skills, as well as enhancing their eye-hand coordination.
